35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Ciconiiformes; Family: Laridae; Genus: Stercoracrius; Genus species: Stercorarius longicausus. Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 50-58 cm; Identification: The long-tailed jaeger has a black cap with yellow underneath. Its back is dark gray, and its underparts, neck, and face are white. The legs are a bluish-gray color, and the tail has long streamers; Habitat: Large lakes; Diet: Carnivore: fish, birds, small mammals, eggs, carrion; Reproduction: Two eggs are laid and incubated for 23-25 days. The chicks fledge at 22-28 days of age; Status: No special status. |
