Description
English: So called The Colosseum Print, a view of north and south London, based on a photograph by Antoine Claudet taken from the top of the Duke of Yorks Column, 124 feet high. The artist, G.F.Sargent (C.F.Sargent (sic)), then drew the photographic detail onto a wood block which was then sent to the engraving firm of Ebenezer Landells. Two months of continuous work followed and the work was then printed by Palmer and Clayton. The picture was given away to subscribers with the 7 January 1843 issue of the Illustrated London News.
