[edit]DescriptionLondon and Midland Bank Leeds (39).JPG |
Showing stone carving on the former London and Midland Bank at 110 Kirkgate, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The building was designed by William Bakewell (1839-1925) and completed in 1892. All exterior carving is by John Wormald Appleyard. Showing the panel which runs around the inside of the front door arch. The creature at the bottom may be a hippocampus, with the head of a horse, lion's feet, and a scaled body which tails off ambiguously into the acanthus leaves. |
