Summary
[edit]DescriptionLombard reliquary casket of Saint Eldrade from Novalesa, Italy.jpg |
English: Reliquary casket, Saint Eldrade
This reliquary casket was discovered along with other precious small artifacts in 1998, when the reliquary shrine of Saint Eldrade preserved in the parish church of Novalesa was opened. Novalesa goes back to the founding of the monastery of the same name by Waldelenus in the year 726. The reliquary consists in its core of rectangular wooden slats that are covered with small plates of bone. The outermost vertical slats on the long sides are somewhat longer so that the reliquary stands on four feet. A hatch is worked into one of the long sides through which the casket can be opened. The large number of reliquaries documents that the cult of saints was quite popular in Lombard Italy.
Deutsch: Bursenreliquiar, Sant'Eldrado
