Summary
[edit]DescriptionLombard rein guide from Veszkény, Hungary - 2.jpg |
English: Horse harness rein guide from the hill grave of Veszkény
Rein guide with a hemispheric middle part. The rounded back of the guide is decorated with four chip carved picture fields, with the opposing fields showing the same motif. The rein guide was found in the hill grave of Veszkény. According to entries in the recorded minutes of the Sopron Archaeological Society, there was a hill roughly 7 meters high at the discovery site as late as 1870. Two human skeletons as well as horse bones and golden buckles had been found at a depth of 2 meters in the middle of the hill. A completely certain localization of the discovery spot is no longer possible today. Taken together, the destroyed double burial and the finds, which belong to two horse harnesses, suggest that this was a leading Lombard figure.
