Summary
[edit]DescriptionLombard harness pendant from Veszkény, Hungary.jpg |
English: Horse harness forehead pendant from the hill grave of Veszkény
Peltate pendant with eyelet, cast in silver and gilded. The pendant features a chip carved decoration of two opposed bird heads, positioned alongside a human mask. The pendant was found in the hill grave of Veszkény. According to entries in the recorded minutes of the Sopron Archaeological Society, there was a hill roughly 7 meters high at the discovery site as late as 1870. Two human skeletons as well as horse bones and golden buckles had been found at a depth of 2 meters in the middle of the hill. A completely certain localization of the discovery spot is no longer possible today. Taken together, the destroyed double burial and the finds, which belong to two horse harnesses, suggest that this was a leading Lombard figure.
