Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Ambo plaque with depiction of a saint
  • Novara, Province of Novara, Region Piedmont, Italy

This fragment together with another one is ascribed to an ambo (a church lectern) with a double staircase.

The image area of the ambo plate shows a frontal view of a bearded man with long hair wearing a garment that reaches to his calves and a multipartite belt set at his waist level. In his raised right hand he is holding a hammer or an axe. His left hand is propped on his hip. The figure portrayed is unquestionably a Lombard.

  • Photographed while on display from 22 August 2008 to 11 January 2009 in the exhibition "Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung" at the Rheinisches LandesMuseum Bonn. On loan from the Museo della Canonica del Duomo, Novara.
Deutsch: Amboplatte mit Heiligendarstellung
  • Novara, Provinz Novara, Region Piemonte, Italien

Date Late 7th to early 8th centuries / Ende 7. bis Anfang 8. Jahrhundert
