Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Lollipop Farmhouse (Talbot Village) - Columbia Road. Lollipop Farmhouse (now lollipop cottage) was one of the five farms of the original 'Talbot Village' The village built by two wealthy sisters following a unemployment relief scheme in the 1850's and originally consisted of 22 houses, 17 cottages with an acre of land attached, 5 farms, church, school and almshouses. 150 acres of heath was left uncultivated. Inspired in part by the writings of Robert Owen it was described by the sisters as an institute for the industrious working man. No lodgers were allowed and no business was to be carried out except smallholding. A trust was set up to administer the estate which still exists. The cottage now stands on Columbia Road (BH10 4DX).

One of the farms (Talbot Village Farm) was demolished and is now the site of Bournemouth University.
