Stoodon to westward past the barrier reef, thenhauled to the southward till the channel orpassage was open; then hauled in and workedup to the anchorage, and anchored about thesame place we did with the ill-fated Wan-dering Minstrel. Havingmade a change of officers and effected the nec-essary requirements, we renewed the voyage.Wherever we went we had bad weather, andfinally when we sighted Midway we spentthree days waiting for the sea and wind tomoderate. We entered Welles Harbor, neverto get out again. It was gale after gale, tillfinally the chains parted, and after the shipstruck heavily several time
