here about a year previous toour arrival. The balance of the crew of thatvessel reached Jaluit, Marshall Islands, in aboat, and returned to Honolulu by a vesselwhich called at Jaluit en route to the Ha-waiian Islands. This Jorgensen became a very objectionablecharacter, and wTe were not sorry at his de-parture, in company with the mate and a Chi-nese boy, in October following the wreck of theWandering Minstrel. They also reachedJaluit. About three months after the wreck six ofthe crew took the best boat we had, at night-time, and went to Green Island, and fromthence the following day started for the opensea. A heavy gale set in that night, and thereis no doubt all perished, as no tidings wereever heard of them. The anchors and chains and iron tanks arestill to be seen at the bottom, and every nowand then relics are cast up on the beach,though at this writing (1909) it is twenty-oneyears since she was wrecked. Midway consists of two islets, one to theeastward being composed of coarse brokencoral, densely covered Avith scrub. We calledit Green Island.
