English: "Photo by R.F. Bowdish, circa 1872, from Historic Landmarks in Ohio: Volume I, compiled by several chapters of the United States Daughters of 1812 in 1947. Digitized by Columbus Memory. No doubt, this structure, which stood at 770 West Broad Street, near Lucas Sullivant's 1801 residence, predates the founding of Columbus. According to the original caption, it served as William Henry Harrison's headquarters during the War of 1812; if this information is correct, the so-called "Harrison House," an extant brick structure, has long suffered from mistaken identity. Donald Hutslar included this photo in The Architecture of Migration, noting that "[the house] is interesting because it was remodeled in the Greek Revival style."" |
