anadian Pacific Railway, inthe companys shops at Montreal, afterthe designs of Mr. R. Atkinson, mechani-cal superintendent. Four of these engineshave been built, and the one shown is thefirst compound locomotive built in Can- (TYade-Mark Registered.) NEW YORK, AUGUST, 1897. The boiler is designed to carry a work-ing pressure of 200 pounds, and is S3Hinches diameter at the smallest ring. Itcontains 216 tubes 2 inches diameter. Thetubes give a heating surface of 1,310square feet, the firebox 118 square feet,making a total heating surface of 1,428square feet. The grate area is 28.54 squarefeet. Krupp crucible tires are used: United No. 8. exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe is ratherlow, being 21 % inches above the bottomof the smoke-box. Between the nozzleand the opening to the smoke-stack thereare two lift pipes, the lower one being 10inches diameter and the upper one 13inches diameter. The cylinders of this engine are 19 and29x24 inches; the driving wheels are 62inches diameter outside of tires.
