Description

c/n 382-4226 Built 1967 as a Hercules C.1 and allocated the US military serial 66-8552 for admin purposes. Painted and fitted out at Marshalls of Cambridge and then allocated to 48sqn in Singapore. Returned to permanent UK operations in 1971. Converted to a ‘stretched’ Hercules C.3 during the early 1980s, this involving installation of two fuselage plugs supplied by Lockheed. Flew with the Lyneham Transport Wing from conversion until she was retired in August 2011. One of the last four ‘original’ Hercules in RAF service, she was allocated to the RAF Museum and flown to RAF Cosford for permanent display. RAF Museum Cosford, Shropshire, UK.
