Summary

[edit]
Description

A Lockheed Electra 10A on display in the New England Air Museum. The Lockheed Model 10 Electra represented Lockheed's entry into the era of streamlined all-metal airplanes. This aircraft was used by various airlines in North and South America and in Europe. The prototype first flew on 23 February 1934. This example, serial no. 1052, was initially a U.S. Navy XR2O-1, delivered in February 1936 for use as a staff transport by the Secretary of the Navy. It has been repainted in the colors of Northwest Airlines, which was the first user of the Electra.

The Lockheed Electra is perhaps most notable for being the aircraft type in which Amelia Earhart made her ill-fated attempt to fly around the world in 1937.
