Lock Five on the River Murrary Murray
Photographer
Captain Frank Hurley
Title
Lock Five on the River Murrary Murray
Description

In this image a man is standing ontop of one of the various river locks of the River Murrary at Renmark. The lock gates close to form a 'V' against the current and upstream water pressure, which helps to keep them closed and make a watertight seal. The pressure of water within the lock chamber keeps the downstream gates closed.

This image is a part of a wider series of photographs taken by Captain Frank Hurley in 1935.

This image has probably been reversed when copied, as indicated by the direction of the water flow.
