| Description |
English: Lochan, Bealach Glas One of the many shallow lochans on the moors around Beinn Bhreac. The difficulty of navigating up here is illustrated. Some of the lochans are actually marshes or areas of bare peat, even in an extremely wet period like most of 2008. The two prominent knolls are not shown at all on the 1:25000 map and would have caused considerable difficulty in mist. They were confusing enough in this visibility. While I knew the way off the hill, I wanted to pinpoint my position within the grid square - the lochan helped here.
The moorland here is grazed by deer and sheep, and is a welcome large area free of conifer plantations. Please leave this wonderful wild place alone - put the windmills where the roads are - in the forested areas! |
