| Description |
The interior of Llandudno Station signal box showing the block shelf above the lever frame. Thursday 20th August 1987 Llandudno No2 signal box was a London and North Western Railway Type 4 design which opened in 1891 fitted with an 86 lever London and North Western Railway Tumbler frame, replacing an earlier box. The box was renamed Llandudno Station on 13th September 1970 when Llandudno No1 signal box was closed. In early 1978 the box was closed to allow track remodelling and resignalling which included reducing the frame to 34 levers, the box reopening on 19th March 1978 The block shelf carries (left to right) a ?, an illuminated track diagram, a British Railways Standard absolute block instrument from/to Deganwy signal box, a ? and a group of signal lamp indicators. Attached to the front of the block shelf are a series of semaphore signal arm and point detection indication repeaters and sealed releases,a push button release and a Welwyn manual time release beneath the block instrument. Attached to the end of the block shelf is a case for the locking room door key (the plastic window could be broken in an emergency) |
