heep of the ordinary grade will average from twoand one-half to three pounds per head, of a really good grade ofwool. Better breeds would produce a heavier fleece, but I do notbelieve the fleece in Florida on any breed would be quite as heavyas it would be in a colder climate. The animal does not need asmuch protection. This is clearly shown on the coat of wild fur-bearing animals, such as the otter, the beaver, etc. The local markets in Florida easily consume all the mutton nowavailable. There is always a ready sale for wool. As the eweslamb in December and January, Florida is the finest place in theUnited States to furnish spring lamb for market. A Good Yield of Crab Grass in St. Johns County Some of the principal owners of sheep in this section are Ordia Bass,Henry T. Bass, R. D. Waring, Ed. Whaley, J. O. Ward, and CarsonCattle Company. Notwithstanding that the raising of sheep is extremely profitable, the industry has not been as largely developed as it is capable ofbeing, by a great deal. The number of sheep in the territory mentioned probably doesexceed twenty thousand, while the cattle in the same territory willprobably run from one hundred and fifty thousand to two hundredthousand. Possibilities There are so many feedstuffs adapted to cattle and sheep that canbe easily and cheaply produced. It is easy to see that when betterbreeds of both cattle and sheep are introduced and more modernmethods for caring for them are in operation, the profits to be de-rived will be increased many fold, and as I see it, the Kissimmeevalley section of Florida will furnish beef for many thousands ofpeople in this and adjoining states. So far
