Indeed, the entire country has notoverdone the business of turkey raising as the census of 1900shows that on five million farms in the United States a littleover six and a half million turkeys were produced. The fact thata southern state, Texas, produced the greatest number of these birds,makes it appear that they are adapted to a warm climate, andthat may be one reason why the limited experiments that have beenconducted in Florida have proven successful. Regardless of the fact that Christmas andThanksgiving in Florida are snowless, the turkey is the main featureof the dinner menu, and it never fails to command a fancy price. In-asmuch as young turkeys particularly are delicate, Floridas mildwinters minimize the risk in raising them to a great extent. In the central and southern portions of the state birds need only tobe protected from rain and cold winds. It is, however, consideredadvisable to provide sufficient shelter to meet any emergency. Ducks and Geese MOST varieties of ducks and geese do exceptionally well inFlorida. The wild species of both varieties of these waterfowl winter in the state by the millions, especially is this truein the case of ducks. Of the tame ducks, the Indian Runner breedseems to be the best for all purposes. W. S.
