Heritage-listed building in the Liverpool Railway Station

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Liverpool Railway Goods Shed is a single storey building constructed of English bond brick with corrugated iron gable roof. The east elevation has a hipped verandah supported on a hardwood platform. The building is seven bays long and two bays wide. Each bay has recessed walls with dog tooth dentilling at the head and featuring 3-ring arched windows with rendered sills and iron framed windows with arched semicircular heads. Large corrugated iron sheeted doors at the north and south ends of the building traditionally provided railway access (a line ran through the building).

On the southern side of the building a hardwood platform extended alongside the single railway line. This platform is still evident and features a standard iron jib crane T15Z built by the Phoenix Iron Works, Ballarat. The crane is unused.

Since the 1992 Heritage Study the Railway Goods Shed and yard have been renovated. In addition the area immediately to the northwest has been redeveloped into Liverpool Bus Interchange. The Good Shed building is now in use by State Rail Authority personnel and the yard is a car park. The area is fenced off from the Bus Interchange by high security fencing.
