t I wonder how many of you girls are learning to beL!d housekeepers? Ill tell you what Ill do. Ill give a prize tothe girl who makes the best cake, and another to the one who makesthe best pudding, and another for the best baked custard. The school-girls looked at each other, and almost every one said Ill try; the girls who had never tried cooking were sure it wouldbe easy enough. They had two days to try in, and what a timethere was in almost every kitchen in the village. Lizzie did not talk much about trying.
