Text Appearing Before Image:
ve three shapes before they getthrough the world. When the Ant Lion has eaten as many ants as he wants, andbegins to feel stupid and sleepy, he goes to work to build himself asnug house, where he can pass the second state of his wonderfullife, and not be himself eaten by some bigger insect. This houseis called his cocoon, and is made of fine sand glued together withsilken threads which he spins himself. This silk and sand house is less than half an inch in diameterand is round. Inside it is lined with silk, and there he passes aquiet season of rest after his hard labors as an Ant Lion. Whenready to come out, he gnaws a hole through the house and drawshimself out. But what a change has come over him ! When hehas taken a breath or two of air, his body suddenly grows threetimes as large as it was in the cocoon, four broad gauzy wings IX FEATHERS AXB FUR. 207 unfold, the curious antennae unroll, and he floats off on the air abeautiful fly, exactly as you see him at the top of the picture.
Text Appearing After Image:
