Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Little Egret amidst the Rooks There were several hundred rooks on the field and, with them, four little egrets. The little egret, a medium sized (22inch) slender white heron has two long crest feathers in the summer. It has black legs and yellow feet. If feeds in shallow open water. The first record of a little egret seen in Great Britain was in March 1826 on the Humber estuary and in 1957 as many as 447 birds were recorded. Little egrets are most widespread in spring in coastal counties from Norfolk to Cornwall, with smaller numbers elsewhere and further in land. Fewer are seen in the autumn, even then birds are likely to occur anywhere. The bird has a habit or remaining at a site for long periods even overwintering on some estuaries.
