Title
Lion rampant: Powys?
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy shield-shaped horse harness pendant complete with suspension loop and hinge pin. Design of a lion rampant on a gold ground. The edges of the gilding have rotted in such a way that a series of layers of colour are visible, running through bright gilding, tarnished gilding and pale green gilding residue. There is also a distinct stripe of deep red on the body near the third leg, and a number of tiny specks of the same colour scattered over the body, suggesting that the original arms may have been or, a lion rampant gules. Measurements: Shield, 18.3 mm x 24.5 mm, with suspension loop 35.5 mm; pin 8.5 mm.
