Summary

[edit]
Description Here is a beautiful but deadly Lionfish. It's spines are toxic. I have covered Lionfish extensively in my Emirates Park and Zoo album so will not repeat the same info here. Still, to state briefly, Pterois is a genus of venomous marine fish, commonly known as Lionfish, native to the Indo-Pacific. Pterois, also called Zebrafish, Firefish, Turkeyfish or Butterfly-cod, is characterized by conspicuous warning coloration with red, white, creamy, or black bands, showy pectoral fins, and venomous spiky fin rays. Despite the dangers with their toxic spines, Lionfish are popular aquarium fish. (Toronto, Canada, Nov.2015)
