| Description |
English: Line towards North Walsham, Cromer and Sheringham Rackheath Airfield, home of the US 467th Bomb Group in WWII, lay to the west of the railway line with the main runway running parallel with it. A belt of woodland clearly seen on the Landranger map marks that runway's position. This map http://www.the467tharchive.org/frame.html on the 467th website makes it all clear.
What is now the industrial estate at Rackheath, see https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/18563, was the base's technical site and one of the hangars and the control tower are still standing. |
