Title |
Lincoln Imp |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy, hollow-backed representation of the Lincoln Imp complete, but broken into two pieces, dating from post - medieval to modern period, (c.AD 1700-1900). The casting is a fairly accurate representation of the Imp, in this case he is sitting on a rock or tree stump, which flares out to form a semi-circular base, giving balance and allowing it to stand upright without support. Cast around the bottom of the piece, close to where it rests on the ground is the inscription, ' Lincoln '. This suggests that the piece may originally have been manufactured as a tourist item. The narrowest part of the figure is at the neck and this is where the head has become detached. The height of the complete piece is 128.5mm, width: 71.3mm, thickness: 5.0mm, weight: 232.64g. |
