Liglig, better known as “Ligligkot” is a hill top located at Kholli inPalungtar Municipality, ward-2 of Gorkha, Nepal. It is located at the height of 1437 meters from sea level and 140 kilometers due west of Kathmandu. There are different opinions regarding the origin of the word "Liglig". However, it is assumed that it came from the word "lingling" from Magar language meaning clear, pristine, beautiful view. It seems plausible as it fell on the Magar kingdom then, and Magar language was the predominant in that part of the region. Later, after the victory of Shah kings, the Nepali language ( Khas Kura) took over the prevalent Magar language in Liglig, Gorkha. Similarly, it is also believed that the liglig came from the word, “likhlikh” used by locals to refer to boarder. Ligligkot was also called “saat saye liglig” (seven hundred liglig) and it’s meaning could be speculated to refer seven hundred household in those time. This provided a basis for considering liglig as an separate “Mauja”, administrative unit. This is verified by examining a tax receipt-bearing imprint of Mauje liglig paid for land and agricultural. The seven hundred Ligligkot covered Aappipal, Harmi, Khoplang, Chhoprak and Palungtar VDCs.
