Description |
English:
PH Coll 794.8 ARMENIA was a steel lighthouse tender, built in Philadelphia in 1892. She arrived in the Puget Sound from the East Coast early in 1907 and was placed in commission at Astoria. Captain Gregory and First Officer Hammerstorm, previously of the HEATHER, were placed in charge. Chief Engineer Startup, formerly of the COLUMBINE, also joined the crew at that time. In the north-south direction, this is about even with the little strip of South Dearborn Street west of First Avenue South, though it's actually a bit more in line with most of South Lane Street than most of Dearborn (which is roughly a block further south). At the time this was in the area of the coal fueling terminals below South King Street, at a relatively less developed area between the piers immediately south of South King Street and those south of Dearborn. The foreground area is now part of the container port.
