City Point, Va., March 30, 1865. 7.30 p. m.Hon. Secretary of War: I begin to feel that I oiaght to be at home andyet I dislike to leave without seeing nearer tothe end of General Grants present movement. He has now been out since yesterday morningand although he has not 3^et been diverted fromhis programme no considerable effort has yet beenproduced so far as we know here. It seemedto me a great battle, but the older hands herescarcely noticed it and sure enough this morningit was found that very little had been done. A. Lincoln.
