Description
English: U.S. Navy Lieutenant Commander Thomas A. Tucker is lowered to the guided missile destroyer USS Towers (DDG-9) in the Gulf of Tonkin off North Vietnam, on 31 August 1966. The photo was taken after he was rescued out of Haiphong Harbour under fire while he was swimming only 90m from the shore. Tucker was flying a Vought RF-8G Crusader and was shot down by anti-aircraft fire. He was rescued by a Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King (BuNo 152121) of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 6 (HS-6) "Indians" from the aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge (CVS-33).
