The regiment was organized between May 8- June 3, 1775 at Providence with recruits from Providence County. Adopted on June 14, 1775 into the Continental Army and assigned to the Main Army. Consolidated on January 1, 1776 with the Continental Regiment; expanded and re-designated as Capt. Ebenezer Stevens' and Capt.
