Français : Le lieu historique national du Canada du Manoir Mauvide-Genest est situé sur la rive sud de l’Île d’Orléans au chemin Royal, dans la municipalité de Saint-Jean. La reconnaissance officielle fait référence au bâtiment et à son lot cadastral.
Le manoir Mauvide-Genest est un exemple particulièrement remarquable des manoirs seigneuriaux édifiés en contexte rural vers le milieu du XVIIIe siècle. Avec l’ancienne seigneurie de l’Île d’Orléans, le manoir témoigne aussi de l’importance historique nationale du régime seigneurial sous le Régime français. La valeur patrimoniale du manoir Mauvide-Genest tient à la forme, aux matériaux et au cadre rural de sa résidence, associés au XVIIIe siècle, et à son illustration de la subdivision des terres sous le régime seigneurial français. De par sa taille, la proximité du fleuve Saint-Laurent et d’un ruisseau, ainsi que l’accès à un lot boisé, la propriété possède toutes les caractéristiques d’une seigneurie rurale le long du Saint-Laurent. La propriété du manoir Mauvide-Genest a été créée 1734 à partir d’un domaine appartenant à Charles Genest. Elle servit comme résidence à son petit-fils Jean Mauvide, chirurgien du Roi, marchand et de 1752 à 1779, seigneur de l’Île d’Orléans. Au moment de la construction, la façade de la résidence, orientée vers le sud, dominait un jardin et le fleuve. L’embourgeoisement du terrain et du manoir au XVIIIe siècle semble cependant attribuable à un propriétaire ultérieur. |
