[edit]DescriptionLiebherr tower cranes dallas texas uptown 2009-08-18.jpg |
English: Picture of the $200 million[1], dual tower high-rise currently under construction in Dallas, Texas. Appearing on the right is the 24-story residential tower, developed by Gables Residential. The other tower is a 20-story office building being developed by Granite Properties. The project has frontage on both McKinney Avenue and Cedar Springs Road.
The cranes appearing in this photograph were both manufactured by Liebherr. On the left and taller is a Liebherr 420 EC-H, while on the right is a larger capacity crane, a 550 EC-H. Visible on the Liebherr 550 EC-H toward is the "Top Climbing Unit with Hydraulics." This device allows the crane to insert or remove mast sections, which are the central vertical sections that form the "tower" supporting the upper portion of the crane. This top-climbing unit located about halfway between the ground and the operators cab. Right below the top climbing unit are supports tying the tower structure to the building for additional lateral support.
