Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Liddell's Monument Duncan(?) Liddell was the Laird of Pittmedden House in the late 16th Century. An intellectual, he was interested in science and astronomy and studied in Germany. He endowed lectureships and studentships at the University of Aberdeen. When he died in 1614 this monument was erected in his memory.

It is situated at the side of the old track from Pitmedden House to the (now ruined) St Fergus Church at NJ874154. Much of the track has been obliterated by a modern gravel pit. Unfortunately a modern power line almost runs over the top of the monument. Liddell's tomb can be still be seen in St Nicholas Kirk in Aberdeen city. The monument can be seen from the Aberdeen-Inverness railway line.
