Summary

[edit]
Description
English: This is a photograph of Lick Observatory - the dome contains one of the many extraordinary telescopes. The Observatory was built between 1876 and 1887 and opened in 1888. It was built from a bequest from James Lick (8/25/1796 - 10/1/1876), and named after him. James Lick was buried on the mountain in 1887 under what was the future site of one of the telescopes. In November 2014, the University of California decided to continue it's support of the Observatory. I believe Lick Observatory deserves to be honored as an Historical Landmark.
