Summary
[edit]DescriptionLichen (Pertusaria pertusa) with fungal parasite - geograph.org.uk - 1221559.jpg |
English: Lichen (Pertusaria pertusa) with fungal parasite. Just a few metres ENE of a ruined building (1220786), the base of a tree is almost completely covered, to a height of about a metre, by the lichen Pertusaria pertusa (for a brief description of the species, see 988200).
In this case, the point of interest was that a fairly small part of the extensive lichen crust appeared to have been infected by a parasitic fungus. By way of contrast, the left-hand side of this photograph shows the lichen with its usual colouration, while the right-hand side shows an area that has already died off, and which has become bleached as a result; the pinkish advancing edge of the infection can clearly be seen. Compare 1037553 and 1040204. |
