Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Library and Museum, Castle Street, Shrewsbury. This was Shrewsbury School, founded in 1552. The building dates from the 1590s and 1630 (the latter being the part deen in this photo). Above the columns on each side of the doorway are two figures, named in Greek letters Philomathon and Polymathon - he that wants to know and he who knows much. The statue in the garden is of Charles Darwin, who was a pupil at the school, made in 1897 by H Montford.
