May be that the once shiningstar of old Egypt will again rise from behind the 237 clouds and with her eight million people livingon the richest soil in that most fertile valley oftheir great river, and take her place amongthe best nations on earth. LETTER XXXI. IN EGYPT. BAZAARS IN CAIRO.—PYRAMIDS.—-ARABIC SCHOOL.—WHERE MOSES WAS FOUND.—OLD CAIRO.—THENILE.—CURIOUS SCENES, ON AND ALONGTHE RIVER. BEFORE leaving Cairo we visited so manyplaces that were queer and strange that Iwill undertake to mention but a few of themost important. The bazaars in the nativequarters are extremely curious. There they man-ufacture their wares and store, sell and display^them. Main street, barely wide enough for twocarriages to pass, leads into and through the strangeand busy part of the great city. It is so thronged during the day that onecan scarcely push his way along. There are onlynarrow sidewalks and the whole street is filledwith people on foot, on donkeys, in carriages,and on camels. The houses are low, project outat the top, built of stone and are ages old.
