English: Requests permission to bring a battalion to Missouri to raise a regiment.



Transcription: Helena Ark Sept 7th 1862


Gen Pomeroy


Dear Sir

My Battalions Six Companies are name here. I have lost a number in Battle Hardships a disease has taken many I now have only 200 men for duty I desire to be Sent back to Mo if there 2 weeks in vicinity of Rolla I could fill up to 500 men Col Wright is at Springfield with 8 Companies and is making 9 Regiments without us I desire also to fill my Battalion up to a Regiment, and if allowed to do So I will have the best Cavalry Regiment in the Service, men that can ride Shout and [word unclear] a Buffalo or Rebel going at full speed we could clear out Some of the Rebel Bands and fill our Regiment at the Same time. Cannot you get an order for us to go to Mo 2d organize a Regiment if So you will do me a favor that will never be forgotten when once organized I would like to go to the Potomac and take from or give Col Stewart Lessons in Cavalry Raids

I enclosed a Letter to Gen Halleck asking him to Lend us to Mo and 2d Let us organize a Regiment
