English: Thanks Brinton for his help, and encloses papers connected with the settlement of Brinton's accounts.
Transcription May 13th 1865. Dear Doctor Yours of the 12th inst. enclosing draft on Mess. Jay Cooke and Co for thirty dollars, came to hand this morning and for which please accept my sincere thanks. I thank you very much for the kind interest manifested in my behalf and if it should ever be in my power to assist you in any way I shall be most happy to do so. I was very sorry when you left the Department of Surgical Records, and the Bureau which you left, has never been the same as when you were the Chief; and everything has been conducted in such a manner that I doubt very much if the work will ever be published by Congress. Enclosed please find all papers connected with the settlement of your accounts with the United States not required by Major Rochester. With kind wishes for your most prosperous success I remain. Very truly your friend. S.J. Gass
