Regarding troubles with a doctor named Ira R.

Transcription: March 14th 1865

Dear Doctor,

Yours of the 12th was received to day. I have answered also to day your official application report.

The caliber of Ira R. is perfectly well known to this office, and to the individuals the [words unclear] has long been demonstrated. He used to annoy me almost to death in St Louis, by his confidential consultations with me in regard to his duties, but he never can be taught. He however is the model Major of the Medical Corps in the eyes of the chairman of the Mil. Com. of the Hon. Levate, whose friend [and] family physician he was.

Dr. Wood thinks he had better remain where he is, but he will send an Asst Surg. Frazier to do his duty. I believe Frazier is a good Hospital man [and] will straighten things out for Ira —

I sent you yesterday all the circulars from this office you applied for.

Do you hear anything about your resignation. I have not heard a word from Washington for some time.

Yours truly

Joseph B. Brown

Dr. Brinton
