English: Major C. W. Ayars wrote this letter to Dr. Esther E. Leonard and requested that she send her contract to his office for proper notation. Dr. Leonard served as a contract surgeon during World War I at the U.S. Army General Hospital No. 1 in New York City and at an evacuation hospital in Vichy, France.
Transcription: IN REPLY REFER TO S.G.O. 201 - Leonard, Esther, E. March 10, 1919 Dr. Esther E. Leonard, 909 South Walnut Street, Centralia, Illinois. Madam: I am directed by the Surgeon General to acknowledge receipt of your telegram dated March 7, 1919 and in reply to inform you it is desired that you forward to this office without delay the copy of contract which you now hold for proper notation.
