Nederlands: De eerste pagina van de brief die Koning Willem II stuurt naar de shogun, de militaire leider van Japan. In de brief raadt hij de shogun om Japan open te stellen voor buitenlanders. De brief is grotendeels opgesteld door Philip Franz von Siebold, Japan reiziger en wetenschapper. De adviseurs van de shogun sturen in zijn naam een brief terug, met geschenken, maar zeggen geen veranderingen in het beleid aan te zullen brengen. English: The first page of the letter King William II sent to the Shogun, Japan’s military ruler. In this letter, he advised the Shogun to open Japan’s borders to foreigners. The main part of the letter was drawn up by Philip Franz von Siebold, a scientist who traveled through Japan. The Shogun’s advisors sent a reply on his behalf accompanied by gifts, but said they would not introduce any changes to the policy. |
