Title
Letter from Georg Bredig to Max Bredig, May 26, 1936
Description
Georg Bredig (1868-1944) informs his son, Max Bredig (1902-1977), that he will undoubtedly be forced to resign from his position as a chemist with Bavarian Nitrogen Works because of his Jewish heritage. Bavarian Nitrogen Works was one of many German companies that was pressured to become "judenfrei" (free of Jewish employees) after the passage of the antisemitic Nuremberg Laws under the Third Reich in 1935. Georg additionally mentions the similar case of I.G. Farben, which sent many of its Jewish employees to work in the United States. On account of his imminent termination, Georg provides Max with American contacts and suggests that his son explore professional scientific opportunities abroad when he attends the World Power Congress in London from June 22-27, 1936.
