English: "Havre De Grace
July 9th 61 I just received your letter this morning and I can't get a furlough as the leiut third because he wanted his pistol fixed as it is out of order to so is the captains. No more men can get off on account of our time being near up. We are at headquarters Md and can't get as much liberty. There is about 60 under guard for going away on the 4th and getting drunk. The col says that Comp H is the crack company of the Reg. All we want is some smoking tobacco. There is 27 on guard every day battalion drill every other day fetches the boys too mostly double quick."
