Summary

Description
English: "How are Sallie and Sammy? Tell Sam that long expected, long looked for, and very lengthy epistle from him has not arrived yet and that I should be pleased to hear of its being sent. How are Billy and Alex, Jane and Mary, and all not forgetting Louisa? Hope they are all enjoying themselves as well as usual. When did you hear from the Philada folks and are they all well? Glad to hear from Uncle Lugue's family. Give them my kind regards when next you visit. Hoping soon to hear from you. I will close by sending kindest love to each and everyone. Good Bye.

Yours affectionately Charley.

Wednesday April 2nd 1862

The mail coming in last night by steamer Calhoun from Pilot Town gives me a chance of sending my letter at 10 o'clock today. Very much disappointed I am not receiving my letter by her, but I suppose it has been miscarried. I have no news since writing except that we are anxiously awaiting our orders to move up river. The sad news of loss of "Congress" frigate and sloop "Cumberland" has been received. Weather is very warm. Thermometer 71 degrees in shade. Do not forget to write as often as convenient. Best love to all.

Farewell Affectionately Charley"
