Do Mother and Father enjoy good health this wainter. Expect Lonisa is getting so tall would hardly know her. Did Billy get down and is he still in Salem. Tell Sallis and Sam would like to hear from them. When did you hear from the Philada folks and are they all well? Do not forget to write as often as possible. Direct to C.H. Morrison on U.S.S. Brooklyn, Gulf Blockading squadron. If I cannot get a chance of sending this off in day or two will try and add Postscript. My best Love to all. Hoping soon to hear from you I remain

My Dear F and M Monday Evening March 3d 1863

A steamer is just reported which all think is the mail steamer. Consequently a great commotion prevails among letter writers. Our 1st Lieutenant W.B. Lowry has left the Brooklyn to take command of Gun Boat "Montgomery" a more perfect gentleman than Mr. Lowry is hard to find. His successor has not yet arrived but it will be hard to fill his place. The great Expedition against New Orleans I think, will soon assume a very formidable aspect especially if Commodore Porter's River Expedition should prove successful. We are expecting an order every day to join the squadron to ascend the River, having been supplied with coal and other stores during the last week. This ship carries the heaviest Battery of any ship of her size in the Navy consequently she will take a pretty prominent part.

The month of March came in, in a very pleasant manner being quite a warm day. Last night very vivid lightning accompanied by little rain. Towards morning wind rose very..."
