Dear Aunt Adda:

Received the fruit cake last week and I can assure you that it was the nicest thing that has happened to me since the outbreak of the war. I am only too sorry that we couldn’t stretch the cake over until today, but you know how it goes: Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow might find lizzards in the fruit cake.
