English: "Is getting low. I hate to apologize again but this damned old tub is rolling, like a rocking horse and I know my hand writing looks like it. If she tolls over much further I’ll find myself on the deck, about six feet below.
I’ve put in for a transfer to the Fire Control School at the Navy Yard, Washington D.C., but inasmuch as my esteemed top sergeant has formed an intense dislike for me, I doubt if it will go through. He claims I think I’m too damn smart for a “boat” Marine, and I claim that if it took me as long to make top pick, seventeen years, as it did him, I wouldn’t stay in the Marine Corps. Consequently I’m looked upon as a very snooty individual who thinks he’s too good for the Marine Corps as an enlisted man. Perhaps I am. Love Ed P.S. This letter will probably be mailed from Manila.
